The Mikado, or The Town of Titipu, is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert, their ninth of fourteen operatic collaborations. It opened on March 14, 1885, in London, where it ran at the Savoy Theatre for 672 performances, which was the second longest run for any work of musical theatre and one of the longest runs of any theatre piece up to that time.
There will be a compulsory orientation for the Mikado on the 1st of July at the "Attic Bar", in the Unity Hall Hotel, Balmain, this commences at 7pm. Auditions will be held on the 15th and 22th of July. Times for auditions will be booked at the orientation.
Rehearsals for the show will be on Tuesdays and Thursday nights from 7pm - 10pm at the Seymour Centre and on Sundays from 1pm - 5pm at the "Attic Bar". Rehearsals commence 29th of July. The company intends to perform some midweek daytime performances for schools and preference will be given to cast that can make these performances.
The Mikado will be performed at the Sydney Theatre between November 6th - 15th 2008

Principals - Applicants should prepare two contrasting numbers from either a Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta or other operetta of a similar period and style (eg The Merry Widow). They may only be required to sing one for their audition.
We strongly suggest that applicants are familiar with a song from the following list in their part choice and voice type

Forbidden Broadway will be BLOC's first professional show. We will be doing a national tour starting in December 2008
Forbidden Broadway is a musical revue where the lyrics of famous songs are altered to make fun of performers, writers, producers and the show itself, our performance will feature songs from "Annie", "The Lion King", "Cats", "Mamma Mia", "Les Misarables", "Rent" and most other major musical releases in the past 20 years. a must see for the seasoned musical theatre junkie.
